Awe & Wonder : Paul's Declaration
Colossians 1:15-20
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by[a] him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. 19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

The Practice - Being in Awe and Wonder
Jesus is unrivaled, unsurpassed, unequaled, & unmatched.

You can either have big problems and a small God, or a small problems and a Big God. What do you have? Let’s lay whatever we’ve magnified in our mind at the feet of Jesus, our mighty & powerful Creator, Sustainer, & Redeemer! He is in charge, he runs the universe, he upholds creation, he is God & we are not. He is big, and ultimately, our problems are not. So lay down your problems, lay down your burdens, lay down whatever you’ve let weigh you down & redirect your eyes, your affection, your attention, & your devotion onto JESUS!
Awe & Wonder : John's Revelation Part 2
Revelation 7:9-12
9 After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” 11 And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God,  12 saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”

Awe & Wonder : John's Revelation Part 1
Revelation 4:8b
Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!

The Practice - Being in Awe and Wonder
  • Reverence:  John falls down like a dead man at the feet of Jesus. This should be our posture before the King of kings & Lord of lords. We should be so amazed, so stunned, so in awe of Jesus that we cannot even stand…
  • Relationship: Jesus went to hell & back to do everything necessary to have relationship with you. To love you. And his perfect love, casts out all fear…
Awe & Wonder : Christ's Incarnation
Philippians 2:6-11
6 Who, being in very nature[a] God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature[b] of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
The Practice - Being in Awe and Wonder
  • Know Jesus. Know who he is as the word says he is and who he has shown himself to be.
  • Live selflessly. Humble yourself, doing nothing out of selfishness and vainglory. Instead, value others above yourself, putting the needs of others ahead of your own.
  • Express and experience deep love, encouragement, tenderness and compassion and unity in the Holy Spirit, by living selfless and knowing Jesus. Jesus is our everything.
Awe & Wonder : Daniel's Decision
Daniel 7:13-14
I saw in the night visions, & behold, w/ the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, & he came to the Ancient of Days & was presented before him. And to him was given dominion & glory & a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, & languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, & his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.

The Practice - Being in Awe and Wonder
  • Resolved. Be resolved just as Daniel when chose not to take the King's diet. He was resolved, resilient, and had a holy defiance. He stood his ground. How? He KNEW the God he served.
  • Fear ONE and we will be empowered to fear none.
  • Know the ONE, King Jesus, loves us, is for us, and is with us. No power or principality can stand against us.
Awe & Wonder : Job's Vision
Job 42:5
My ears had heard of you, but now my eyes have seen you.

The Practice - Being in Awe and Wonder
  • Know we can boldly approach God. Practice going to him.
  • Know we can boldly approach God, but like Job, we must also remember to humble ourselves before God.
  •  Recognize He oversees the cosmos, and we do not. He runs the world and we do not. He sees all things from the vantage point of eternity, and we do not. He alone understands exactly how he will transform and redeem every tear, every loss, every pain, every trail, every struggle, every sickness and every sorrow, for our ultimate good and for the praises of His glory forever and ever in the age to come!
  • Ask yourself, is Jesus alone enough for you?
Awe & Wonder : Isaiah's Vision
Isaiah 6:1-8
6 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3 And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” 4 At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. 5 “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.” 6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.” 8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
The Practice - Being in Awe and Wonder
Psalm 147: 11, “the LORD delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.” (NIV)
  1. How can we get our eyes off of ourselves and onto the Lord daily?
  2. In light of God’s holiness and kindness, what do we need to repent of?
  3. What has the Spirit convicted us of, but we’ve been dragging our feet to obey?
Prayer: “Lord, rekindle in the hearts of your people a healthy fear & a holy reverence of who you are. And as the power & the glory of your Spirit rests upon your people, we ask that you restore, in each one of us, our worship of you, our obedience to you, & our zeal for you, b/c you are holy, holy, holy, in the name of the Father, & the Son, & the Holy Spirit, amen.”
