W4: Mission
Living as ambassadors of our King wherever we go.
2 Corinthians 5:17-20

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.[a] The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling[b] the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

This Weeks Practice:
  • In what ways does the paradigm of embassy and ambassadorship help you understand the mission that you have as a follower of Jesus?
  • Is there an area, aspect, or environment in your life that you haven’t intentionally sought to represent Jesus as His ambassador?
Vision & Values
W3: Formation
Be with Jesus, become like Jesus, and do the things of Jesus.
Matthew 7:13-14
13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
This Weeks Practice:
  • Think about who you want to become. Now think about your day-to-day. Is the current structure of your life conducive to the kind of spiritual formation you desire? If not, what needs to be eliminated, and/or re-ordered?
  • What’s a spiritual practice you want to weave (back) into your life? (solitude, scripture, prayer, community, sabbath, fasting, giving, service, witness)
Vision & Values
W2: Community
We are committed to following Jesus, together.
Acts 2:42-47
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

This Weeks Practice:
* Questions to consider:
- Why do we need community groups?
- What are some of the benefits of community groups?
- Why might we be resistant to becoming part of a community group?
* Prayerfully consider joining a Community Group here at Laurel Church.
Vision & Values
W1: Devotion
Jesus is worthy of it all.
Acts 16:19-24
19 When her owners realized that their hope of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to face the authorities. 20 They brought them before the magistrates and said, “These men are Jews, and are throwing our city into an uproar 21 by advocating customs unlawful for us Romans to accept or practice.” 22 The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten with rods. 23 After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully. 24 When he received these orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.

This Weeks Practice:
  • Obeying over Compromising: Devotion to Jesus looks like obeying when it’s easier to compromise
  • Worshiping over Complaining: Devotion to Jesus looks like worshiping when it’s easier to complain.
  • Serving over Consuming: Devotion to Jesus looks like serving when it’s easier to consume.
